Generic Conventions in Music Videos

Generic Conventions in music videos In this task, I was asked to choose a an artist of a specific genre and analyse two of their songs to see what conventions they include in their music videos, enabling me to judge which conventions they have used well and not well, and to give me a further idea of how to portray my own music video. In conclusion, in this task, I analysed two music videos from the same artist, Nicky Minaj within the pop genre, to see what conventions she uses, particularly within mise-en-scene, editing, camera, performance and narrative. From this task, I have learnt of different ways that I can engage more with an audience and the conventions I can use to do this such as camera angle and performance. Moving forward, this task will help me as I can begin to judge the successful and unsuccessful conventions used in the music videos that I have analysed and how I can implicate the successful ones into my video in order to make it more intriguing and appealing....

Exceptional Music Videos (mood video)

Image
Exceptional Music Videos In this task, I created a mood video on final cut to analyse different music videos and suggest which parts I could steal, and use that conventional idea in my music video as a way of making it more successful.  In conclusion, in this task, I analysed different music videos to find good conventional ideas that I could perhaps use in the making of my own music video. From this task, I found many different conventional ideas that were successful in other music videos that I could use in my own, such as colour scheme, including choreography and camera angles. I also learnt how these effect the overall mood of the music video and whether it is therefore upbeat or not. Moving forward, this task will help me as I have found different conventions that have been successful music videos and I can begin to think about how I can alter these ideas to make them my own. In addition to this, I can also now begin to think of original ideas that haven't ben use...

Treatment

Treatment In this task I will condense all our initial thoughts including narrative, characters, props, costumes, locations, editing, lighting and camera in order to gain feedback from target audience so that we can make amendments. Copy of There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are. by Josh Burns For this task, I created a treatment condensing all our initial ideas for our music video and digipack so that we can gain feedback from our target audience in order to make amendments and come up with a final idea. This task will help my group and I as it will provide us with a base surface as to where we can start to begin thinking about how we want our music video to pan out and how the digipack can look. (there should be 5 slides to this canva but when I upload it, sometimes it only shows 3, if this is the case - https://www.canva.com/design/DACz4Dpr6QI/view - this is the link to it)

Record of Group Planning Meetings

Image
Record of group planning meetings In this task, I will display all displays of our group meetings in order to keep all our ideas and discussions in order for us to be able to go back to them if we want to re-evaluate our initial ideas. In this task I was asked to provide a record of all our group meetings to relay any information and conversations that we have may have had, discussing our ideas for our music video and digipack. It will help us moving forward as we will be able to go back and reference any initial ideas or good thoughts we had when discussing elements for our products, where we may not have written them down or taken a note of them originally.

Initial Ideas for Music Video & Ancillary Drawings

Image
Initial ideas for music video and Ancillary Drawings      In this task I will provide my initial ideas for the conventions that can be included in my groups music video as well as the elements that we can include in our ancillary tasks such as the digipack and album advert. The process of my initial ideas is that of what conventions I could include that will link and appeal to my chosen target audience and whether they will follow or go against the3 typical conventions usually used in that particular genre. In this task, I was asked to provide my initial ideas for my music video and ancillary tasks. I thought about including conventions that linked with the song genre such as domestic abuse and violence and type of target audience that would listen to that kind of music, as the conventions would be slightly more mature. Linking the song's lyrics to the music video and establishing common themes will help to set up a clear narrative f...

Timeline of Planning

Image
Timeline of Planning In this task I have been asked to provide a timeline of planning to show the process of how we will be completing tasks in order to build up to creating our final products. The timeline includes the process' of going through research, planning, pre-production and production, including individual and group tasks. In this task I was asked to provide a timeline of planning to show how my group and I will complete tasks in order to build up to creating our final product. This task will provide myself and my group with the stability and the knowledge of what needs doing, who needs to do it and when it needs to be done by, in order to meet our deadlines in order to progress through he stages of creation. (any other external links on this page with a ? won't delete and have nothing to do with this task).

Worlde of Competitors

Image
Worlde of Competitors In this task, I have created a Wordle to display the assumed competitors for my music video, this being artists who follow the same genre, Indie, and other general conventions in their videos. In this task I created a world to suggest the competitors my music video would face in terms of artists that follow the same genre and genre conventions. I have learnt that my music video has lots of different types of competitors within the genre, these are from many famous and well known artists and then also less well known acts who have much lower budgets, yet still much more than mine. Moving forward, this task will help me as I can watch some of the music videos created by these artists and take the successful ideas that they use and manipulate them into my own music video.

Photoshop Mood Board

Image
Photoshop Mood Board In this task, I was asked to create a mood board on photoshop to suggest the identity of similar artists to my chosen artists and genre Jorja Smith, within the Indie/Pop genre. The below artists follow similar conventions to my chosen artist, analysing their music videos could give me ideas of how to set out mine. In Conclusion, I have created a mood board on photoshop to display artists that portray similar connotations to my chosen artists Jorja Smith. I have identified these artists as moving forward, their similar traits can be analysed and altered to be used in my own products such as my music video and other Ancillary products, in order for them to be increasingly successful.

Digipack and Album Advert Conventions

Image
Digipack and Album Advert Conventions  In this task, I created two time lapse videos to display the general conventions of a digipack and the conventions of an album advert to show how an artist displays their products to an audience.  In this task, I was asked to display the conventions used in digipacks and album adverts, generically used by previous artists in their products. I have learnt of all the important conventions used on a digipack such as making the artist and any name that associate with the artist more bold than other conventions so that they stand out and their importance is conveyed and as well as this, additional conventions I can use to further engage with the audience.  I have also learnt of the ways artists advertise their albums and other ancillary products to reach out to a wider audience, advertising their products are key to the success of ancillary products, especially before the releasee of the product to create viral h...

Goodwins Theory Music Video Analysis

Goodwin's Theory Music Video Analysis  In this task, I have created an Emaze powerpoint to show an analysis and explanation of Goodwin's theory on three different types of music video. The video's are narrative, performance and conceptual in which I will analyse the conventions of Goodwin's theory that they display. In conclusion, the analysation I have provided is of the conventions of Goodwin's theory displayed in the narrative, performance and conceptual music videos. From this task, I have learnt that different types of music video and different genre's include a range of Goodwin's theory features to help them to further engage and connect with their audience's. Moving forward, this task will help me as I can take the song and music video that I have chosen, and include some of the successful conventions used by artists depending o the type of music video I choose to make.

Importance of Digipacks and Album Adverts

Importance of Digipacks and Album Adverts In this task, I was asked to display the conventions of a digipack and album advert to show how they promote an artist to display their album and other ancillary products. In conclusion, I was asked to display the conventions used in a digipack and in artists album adverts in order for them to promote their products. From this task, I have learnt that different artists use different methods to promote their products effectively, in relation to the genre that they abide to. Moving forward, this task will help me develop the ideas that I can include in my music video as well as thinking of effective ways that I can show my products to my audience.

Digipack and Album Advert analysis

Digipack and Album Advert Analysis In this task I have been asked to analyse a Digipack and Album advert to see how their conventions help to appeal to their target audience, enabling them to engage with the artist and the content that they are creating. Digipacks often differ with the artist's genre and will choose to display their albums in a variety of ways in order to best showcase what they have to offer. Below is my Prezi displaying my analysation of Michael Jackson's Thriller Digipack and Jessie J's Who You are Album Advert.   In this task I was asked to analyse a digipack and an album advert to see how their conventions appeal to their target audience. I learnt that not all digipacks follow the same conventions and that even those who belong to same the genre don't posses the same conventions. I also learnt that album adverts promote their products specifically towards their target audience, using typical conventions of that genre, in order to gain ...
