Representation of Glamour/Pop lifestyle

Representation of Glamour/Pop lifestyle:

In this task, I am looking at the representation of glamour and a pop lifestyle in real life music videos. This is allowing me to look at more conventions and concepts and begin to think of the genre of music video that I would like to create.

  1. Playing out pop star lifestyle within video - I'm the one by DJ Khaled follows this convention with shots of expensive houses with swimming pools, plenty of voyeuristic half-nude girls, expensive outfits and jewellery; these are presented through the idea that this lifestyle is acclaimed with the 'high life' and generates plenty of money.
  2. Mean and moody men who are too cool/sex appeal - Happy by Pharrel Williams does not follow the typical conventions as the video is presented entirely with happy emotions, open signing and dancing, Williams appears happy and light hearted surrounded by normality as a pose to naked and sexual women.
  3. Seductive poses from female artists (voyeurisms linking with Goodwins theory) - Swalla by Jason Derulo features plenty of close to nude girls and focus' on the forefront of sexual references and  double entendre.
  4. Anti establishment activity, the stereotype of teenagers being rebellious or reckless - Skater boy by Lavigne presents plenty of rebellious moments, following the conventions of this representation by presenting a story about a girl being a punk and doing whats she wants with who she wants.
  5. Deserted locations, straight froward narrative (boy meets girl) - Beautiful by One Direction was filmed on a beach in which they were the only people on the location, making them the centre of attention. In addition to this, the narrative fitted with the stereotypical boy meets girl and relationships narrative.
  6. Guitar Solo's - Busted feature many different guitar solo's as their band includes many members that can play the guitar, these solo's are continuously presented form low angle shots to show how they are in control and they are the powerful musicians on stage.
  7. Mise-en-scene, short skirts, voyeurisms - Wiggle by Jason Derulo is another one of his songs that are heavily conveyed as repeatedly sexual referenced that include plenty of double entendre, the depiction of girls in short skirts presents the idea of sexual desire from the artist and the audience.
  8. Cleavage shots that aren't at all subtle, Voyeurisms - Nicky Minaj is notoriously known fro her excessive bodily features, especially noted in her music video for Super Bass. Her bodily features means she is consistently linked with ideas of sexual desire especially as she often wears small bra's and tight clothing, in order to show off her assets.
  9. Trying to represent or refer to certain images, intertextuality - Iggy Azaleas Fancy features shots of what life can be like as a young successful artist and the way that she can be featured and seen on many different platforms, more commonly in tis day and age on a mobile phone.
  10. Dancing choreograph - features fluent scenes of in time dancing from dancers that give the music video an uplifting and catchy feeling. This is shown throughout Michael Jacksons Thriller.
Representation Mood Board

In this task, I have looked at how different concepts and ideas are displayed and exaggerated in order to engage an idea with the audience. I can now begin to look at these ideas and, moving forward, I can begin to mold my own ideas and think about the genre I could represent in my own music video.

  1. You've included some good examples, but overall your post needs much more detail.
You must also write what the task was, what you've learnt and how it will help you when creating your own production.
Additionally, please use a web 2.0 tool to showcase your work.
